North American Chum
Mimi & Marge Jewelry

For those who think the ’80s were wack and Canada is filled with humorless yahoos with silly accents, prepare to be wrong.
Vancouver-based jewelry designer Kenda Haga’s newest additions to her line, Mimi & Marge, focus on iconic ’80s imagery and the funny parts of our neighbor to the north.
Among the best from the Me Decade: bracelets, rings, and necklaces with a gold or silver snake or lion’s head. There are also silver and wood rings and nature-inspired hoop earrings. The deer heads, antlers, and giant golden beaver are references to what Haga calls “trailer trash Canadiana.”
See? Though it may be a nation that walks around in flip-flops and socks, at least Haga has a sense of humor about it.
