It is with the heaviest of hearts that we write today to say goodbye. After fourteen years delivering you the best in food, fashion, and fun, this train, as they say, is pulling into the station.

Rest assured that every single day that we have published DailyCandy, we have done so with delight.

Our mission was always to charm and inform you, whether telling you about an innovative new restaurant in Brooklyn, a trendy boutique in Chicago’s Gold Coast, or a groundbreaking San Fran band. Through the years, nothing made us happier than helping an emerging designer from West Hollywood find her audience or hearing that after we featured an attorney from Philly she quit her job to make brownies full-time.

But all good things must come to an end. And this, friends, is ours. On April 4, we will close our doors.

It’s been the ride of our lives, and we have loved sharing it with you.

Would-be Delevingnes know to book makeup artist Kari Ellen Winik weeks in advance. She’s a natural at creating a flattering arch and passionate about the face-brightening effects of eyebrow tinting.

Her new at-home kit, Incredibrow by Kari Ellen, lets you steal some of her magic.

The set comes in two shades: one for blondes, medium brunettes, and redheads, another for darker brunettes. Each box contains semipermanent dye (enough for seven to ten applications), tools, and applicators. All you need is fifteen minutes.

First, mix equal parts of the coloring paste with the liquid oxidizer in the mixing dish, then comb the frosting-like dye through your brows with a mascara wand (dab off wayward color with a cotton swab). We tidied up our bathroom and untangled a necklace while we waited the requisite two to ten minutes (longer for darker hair). When time was up, we used a damp towel to wipe the excess tint off our brows and were ready to go. Results last up to three weeks.

These eyes don’t lie.

If you’re lucky, caviar, smoked potato gnocchi, seafood brodetto, and baba al rhum (liquor cake) will all be on the ever-changing menu at chef Fabio Trabocchi’s Washington Harbour trattoria. The spread is as luxurious as the white and brass decor. End your search for the city’s best lobster roll at the bar. The Potomac views are pure D.C., but the experience smacks of a dip in the Mediterranean.

Bryan Voltaggio’s imaginative supper club sits inside Range, located in a Friendship Heights mall. (In this case, the journey is not the destination.) Cadge a reservation and delight in brain-busting combinations (king crab and buttered popcorn) and treatments (calamari Bolognese). For the less adventurous, there are damn good meatballs in ragu. Plans to open a second location in Baltimore are already in the works.

Lupo Verde
Trip to 14th Street for casual Southern Italian fare in a two-story Victorian with an exposed brick-meets-Carrera marble interior. The team behind Station 4 serves a warm welcome, pizzas, and negronis with house-made vermouth. In a hurry? Seventy percent of the menu is available to go. Stock up on fresh and dried pastas, house-cured meats, and 50 cheeses for sale by the ounce in the first-floor market.

Red Apron
Nate Anda serves sandwiches with flair (don’t skip the tigelle) at his Penn Quarter restaurant-slash-market. The star of the breakfast menu is a flaky griddled bread from Emilia-Romagna, overstuffed with sausage, egg, cheese, and maple sugar. Afternoon diet busters include burgers and dogs, a daily hot sandwich, and grinders to go. Yes, there’s a snappy arugula salad, but most prefer it with diced salami, provolone, and artichoke. The meat case is packed with prime cuts for home cooks. Stick around for a house brew (beer or coffee).

1. Or hit up The Eddy Bar inside Hank’s Oyster Bar on the Hill, where a glass of crisp Soave ($5) pairs well with $1 oysters (Monday-Thursday, 5-7 p.m. and Friday, 3-7 p.m.).

2. Thirsty? Peckish? Grab a glass of punch and a knish ($7) during happy hour at Buffalo & Bergen, Gina Chersevani’s Brooklyn-inspired soda fountain inside Union Market (Tuesday-Friday, 4-7 p.m.).

In college, a three-course dinner in Adams Morgan meant Jell-O shots, light beers, and a jumbo slice.

You graduated and moved on. The opening of Roofers Union, a gastropub smack-dab in the land of the bro bar, is reason to return to the neighborhood.

The big (wo)man on campus is Marjorie Meek-Bradley, who worked for Thomas Keller before going to Ripple. She’ll continue to run that kitchen as she schools the diners on 18th Street.

Start with small bites such as French onion dip with potato chips, trotter arancini, and lamb ribs rubbed with zaatar. There are lighter plates like cauliflower with mint and olive oil-poached salmon, but Meek-Bradley’s sausages are a must-order. Andouille corn dogs with cheese spread, beer brats on pretzel rolls, merguez on lentils: She’s hand-stuffed them all. Only the “dirty water dog” is made off premises (courtesy of Red Apron Butchery).

The cocktail menu is a study in sophistication. Sip a China Girl (St. George Terroir gin, mandarin shrub, pine liqueur, rosemary) or one of 22 craft beers.
